Yvonne on the dangers of extreme weight loss

Yvonne was consulted by the 3am team at The Mirror for a nutritionist’s take on the extreme weight loss of the Geordie Shore girls after the cast collectively lost 10 stone in a year.

Yvonne Bishop-Weston says she thinks the cast may be taking things a little too far.

“It is risky losing so much weight too quickly as their bodies are likely to recalibrate their metabolism to compensate for the lack of calories,” she told Mirror Celeb.

“It’s vitally important on these ridiculously low-calorie celebrity diets that one makes every calorie count towards the body’s nutritional needs. There should be no room made in these diets for foods with added processed sugar or fatty foods like burgers and cheese or sweets or else the body will soon become too low in essential fats, iron, B vitamins, zinc, magnesium, anti oxidants and sources of fibre.

“If they lose any more weight, unless they are very careful and seek the advice of an experienced registered nutritionist, they will be in danger of risking problems with fertility, cognitive function, digestion and the quality of their skin.”
